ARTIST & TEACHER PROFILE: JULIE PHILLIPS
Julie Phillips is an artist whose eclectic mix of portraits, landscapes and still-life creations have gradually given way to a distinct style that blends flowing surrealist form with the beaches, landscapes and sensuality of the subjects that define her work.
Born and raised in Clovelly, the Eastern Beaches local draws powerful inspiration from the landscapes that have surrounded her through life. Her vibrant oil paintings frequently encompass light blues of the seaside sky, soft yellows of the sand and deep blues of the ocean. Her work is defined by a raw yet polished-style that manifests in startling and engaging pieces emanating with overtones of nature, sensuality and colour.
Julie is a motivational and enthusiastic art teacher who has a real passion for bringing out the same creative passion in her students. She has been involved in running her own art classes for several years and her students have won several art competitions. She has exhibited her own artworks as well. Julie believes in fostering in her students a belief in themselves, their talents and their own creative expressions, as well as teaching artful technique. Her classes are small, fun and entertaining and her students gain a tremendous sense of achievement and self-worth as they develop their skills.
